  1. Auditions for next year for our schools improve troupe, But Seriously Folks, will take place after school tomorrow. Contracts and sign-ups are on the drama board in the music wing.

 

  1. Juniors: You must have your Meningitis Immunization after the age of 16 to start your senior year.  Turn in your updated immunization records by the first day of school, August 16th.

 

  1. Please pick up any medications in the Health Office by end of the week. Prescription medications need to be picked up by a parent or guardian.  Over the counter medications may be picked up after school by students.  Any medications left in the Health Office on last day of school will be discarded.

 

  1. Attention all students: Don’t forget to clean out your gym locker and school locker before you leave school tomorrow and check out the lost and found area in the Main Street Reception area for lost items.  All items left behind will be donated or discarded.

  1. Congratulations to the boys tennis team for winning the Upstate Eight River Conference title last Saturday. They finished in the top three in all seven positions helping them to secure the team title.

At the Sectional tournament, Tanner Nelson and Conner Stejskal caught 5 large mouth bass for 14 lb. 2 oz. and finishing 3rd  Tanner and Conner will compete for the state championship at Lake Carlyle near St. Louis on May 18-20th.

  1. Batavia won five 2nd place honors in four different categories at the 24th annual MMEA Video Festival. Jena Bendoratitis, Angela Kilbride and Max Micheli tied for 2nd place for their music video.   Jena and Angela also won 2nd place for their dramatic narrative whereas Kyle Berry won 2nd place for his movie trailer.  Cameron Tucker took 2nd place for his commercial.  Please congratulate these students when you see them for a job well done.

  1. The family of Matt Nena established the Matthew Nena Memorial Scholarship, in loving memory of Matt, who passed away on October 2, 2016. The scholarship will be awarded starting with the BHS Class of 2017, and will continue for years to come. The mission is to continue Matt’s dream of higher education by supporting deserving students graduating from Batavia High School. During lunch today and next week, members of the Interact Club – in which Matt was a member – will be selling customized bands in memory of Matthew. There will be two different bands, for $1/each. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go into the scholarship fund. Please buy bands to support Matt’s memory and the scholarship fund. Every dollar matters!

Kelly Segoalso qualified to the state meet in the 200 IM (breaking the freshman record and 100 breast stroke (breaking the 22 year old team record).

Teachers will also cast ballots.  The mock election will be conducted during block 1 only.  Each class will be notified by a “knock” on the door and students, upon instructions from their teacher will proceed to the LRC, receive a ballot, vote, get an “I voted” sticker and return immediately to class.
  1. Auditions for the winter play, The Legend of Robin Hood, will be held tomorrow after school in the black box. Signups, contracts, and calendars can be found on the drama board in the music wing.  You must have a signed contract in order to audition.
  1. Future Medical Professionals Club is a new club at BHS for students interested in pursuing a career in the medical field. Tomorrow is the Second-Round IHSA playoff game at Jacobs High School.  Gates open at 1:00 p.m. and game starts at 2:00 p.m.  All fans are requested to park in the main parking lot.  Fans should enter through the visitor entrance located at the bottom of the hill near the scoreboard.  Tickets cost $5.

Important information to all students: Any student intending on wearing a costume for Halloween on Monday, needs to make sure they follow the handbook guidelines.  If your costume distracts from the learning environment, you will be required to change.  Keep in mind the following guidelines when choosing a costume:
  1. Weapons, replicas or look-alike weapons are not allowed in school.
  2. Masks, headwear or make up that obscures a student’s identity is prohibited.
  3. Clown costumes of any kind are not allowed.
  4. Costumes may not be obscene, racially or culturally insensitive or profane in appearance.
  5. Students may not wear costumes that prevent functionality in the classroom or distract from the learning environment.
  6. All BHS handbook policies are in effect and must be followed.
  7. Students are encouraged to bring alternative clothing to avoid any loss of academic time due to inappropriate costumes.
