BHS Senior Jack Haefer Named 2017 National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete

Batavia High School senior Jack Haefer has been selected as one of three National Football Foundation (NFF) Scholar-Athlete Award recipients in the Chicago area.

The NFF’s prestigious Scholar-Athlete Award recognizes high school students for their outstanding individual academic achievements, athletic accomplishments, and community involvement.

Jack’s excellence on the football field, in the classroom, and in the community earned him the NFF Scholar-Athlete Award and a $3,500 college tuition scholarship. He is Batavia High School’s fifth NFF Scholar-Athlete Award recipient, following in the footsteps of Derek Nutley, Zach Strittmatter, Micah Coffey, and Noah Frazier.

Jack currently has a 4.38 GPA, earned a 26 on his ACT, and is a member (and treasurer) of the National Honor Society, Social Studies National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, and Science National Honor Society. He is also on the BHS Baseball Team and a member of the Key Club service organization.

Off campus, Jack volunteers at the Batavia Food Pantry, Feed My Starving Children, Batavia Moving Charitable Group, Junior Bulldog Football Camp, and Bulldog Youth Football.

“Jack is the epitome of a team player and leader in our program,” said Batavia High School history teacher and defensive coordinator Matt Holm. “He excels academically and is a model of work ethic and character.  He is a consummate worker and learner. He understands the importance of integrity, discipline and work ethic as a means to success, brotherhood and honor.”

Jack, along with the other Chicago-area NFF Scholar-Athlete Award recipients, will be honored at an Annual Awards Ceremony on Monday, February 19, 2018, at Halas Hall. The Scholar-Athletes will be joined by the Voice of the Chicago Bears, Jeff Joniak, as well as current and former NFL and college football players.

This event  provides a unique opportunity to salute Scholar-Athletes and to see Halas Hall, which is rarely open to the public or for charity events.

Congratulations, Jack!
