Monday, January 30

  • Auditions for Pride and Prejudice will be Tuesday in the BFAC black box. Make sure to sign up for a slot outside the choir room and pick up the sides, calendar and audition information. We hope to see you there
  • Join Interact Club for our next meeting after school on Wednesday, February 1 at 2:40p in B125 (Preschool Room)  We will be making Valentines for seniors in our community. We will have all of the supplies to create the project, snacks, and the opportunity to hear about upcoming service events.
  • Educators Rising will meet today in C221 from 2:40-3:30. We will be reading and discussing an article on Social Emotional Learning. We will also be discussing our calendar of events for the semester. New members always welcome.
  • The Girl’s Gymnastics team competed in conference Friday and Saturday! For Varsity, Grace Cooper placed 4th on floor. For JV Leah Flesch placed 2nd on vault, Sophia Brummel placed 1st on floor, and Lauren Callahan placed third on floor. Come support the team at Regionals Wednesday at 6PM at Geneva High School.

Friday, January 27

  • Do you love learning languages? Are you currently enrolled in Spanish or French? You should consider taking the National Spanish or French exam! Students at all levels can take the exam. YES, even if you are in level ONE! The cost is $5. The exam takes less than one hour. Why take the exam? Be competitive and see how your language skills measure up to other students in the US. Also, you can earn awards that look great on your resumé! Talk to your Spanish or French teacher to get more information.

  • Seniors are invited to tomorrow morning’s late start to have a scholarship essay reviewed or work on their Waubonsee Foundation Scholarship which is due February 6th. Contact Mrs. Buttels with questions.
  • Students & families are invited to hear a financial aid presentation on how to pay for college tonight at BHS from 5:30-6:15 pm. We will host presentations in English & Spanish.

  • Congratulations to the BHS Scholastic Bowl Team, JV and Varsity, for placing 2nd overall in the DuKane Conference last night. Eli Balisi was recognized for the top All-Conference Individual Scores for the second year in a row. Great job on an amazing season!

  • Congrats to our JV dance team on getting 3rd at the JV championship. Congrats to both Varsity and JV on a fantastic competition season!
  • Thanks to everyone who came out to Top Dog this past weekend! Ryan Whitwell got 2nd runner up, Sanjay Dave got 1st runner up, and our Top Dog 2023 was Norah Thurow! It was a great night with a ton of amazing talent. We raised over $3,000 for the Kiwanis Neuroscience Research Foundation. If you’re upset you missed the show, mark your calendar, because Next year’s Top Dog will be January 13, 2024!
  • Congrats to the Swing singers show choir for a strong start to their competition season on Saturday at the “Rock the Rock Showcase” in Milton, WI. Great work and good luck this season!

  • Congratulations to the boys swim team on winning its second consecutive Dan Johnson Memorial invite on Saturday, narrowly defeating Neuqua Valley, which took second. Tommy Eng, Ryan Fors, Mason Smith, Nathan Lindstrom and Isaiah Day all swam well. 
  • Congrats to the BHS gymnastics team on 3rd place, for both JV and Varsity at the Dekalb Invite on Friday! Shoutout to Maddie Wheatley for getting 1st in All-Around on JV and Talia Gallas for 5th Place all-around on varsity. Come support the team at their Senior Night this Friday at Excel Gymnastics in Geneva at 6PM. Great job girls!

  • Congratulations to the Batavia Marching Band on their award-winning performance at the Marching Band State Finals this past Saturday! The band earned their 4th consecutive 3rd place this season in class. In addition, the band earned Best Visual Performance.   • Congratulations to the Batavia Varsity Girls Tennis team for winning the IHSA St. Charles North Sectional tournament this past weekend! The Bulldogs were led by Sectional Singles champion Dhruthi Daggubati and Sectional doubles 2nd place finishers Julia Arulandu and Erin Connolly. These three girls qualified for the IHSA state meet that will begin on Thursday. We also received key contributions from the rest of our sectional lineup. Senior Audrey O’Connel had two big wins and Seniors Taylor Steinys and Hannah Schneider had a big doubles win over St. Charles East. The 2022 Varsity Girls Tennis team finished the regular season 15-0 overall and 7-0 in conference, in addition, they won their fourth straight conference title and second consecutive sectional championship. Congratulations on this amazing accomplishment ladies!

For JV2 singles, Izzy Wit placed 4th and Sage Shoaf placed 3rd. In JV2 doubles, Julia Peterson and Summer Moore placed 3rd and the teams of Kate Solano and Sophia Hayden and Ella Bergman and Riley Bainter placed 1st. 


In JV1 singles, Ally Hayden and Sophia Blankenship took 2nd, and Sarah Buckert took 3rd place. JV1 placed 1st in all doubles positions, including the teams of Emma Larson and Casey O’Brien, Abby Arends and Emily Newburn, Norah Thurow and Ainsley Steinys, and Ella Peterson and Addison Schaffer. Congrats on an amazing season Bulldogs!

Attention All Students:

The Varsity girls tennis team won theirJacobs Invite tournament and placed first out of eight..  The Bulldogs were led by second place finishes from Dhruthi Daggubati at 1SINGLES and Erin Connolly / Julia Arulandu at 1 DOUBLES.  The Bulldogs next conference play is TOMORROW Geneva on Tuesday for Senior Night and at St. Charles East on Thursday.

The JV girls tennis team won first place Saturday at the Ottawa Invite. Sarah Buckert took third place at #1 singles and Ainsley Steinys took first in #2 singles. The doubles teams of Casey O’Brien and Emma Larson and Kate Solano and Sophia Hayden placed first, and Izzy Wit and Aliyah St Onge placed second at #3 doubles. Congrats Bulldogs!

Congrats to the Varsity Volleyball team on placing 2nd at the Kaneland Invite this weekend! They went 4-1 which included a big 3 set win over Neuqua Valley. Come out to support all of our levels tomorrow at home against Wheaton Warrenville South at 4:30 and 5:30!

Educators Rising will meet TODAY in C221 at 2:40.  We are discussing our calendar of events for October including Read for the Record, elementary school mentoring, tutoring, and volunteering at Haunted Trails.  New members are always welcome.

Congrats to the volleyball program on getting the program sweep last night against Glenbard North! A big conference win for all teams! Come out next Tuesday as we take on Wheaton Warrenville South and celebrate Staff Appreciation Night!        

The boys varsity soccer team earned a clean sweep last night tying Glenbard North 0-0. Ryan Horlock was outstanding in the goal! Solid defensive performance by Luke Peterson, Brokk Olberg, Jack Smeraglinolo, and Nick Evangelista. Nathan Feller and Alex Marshall locked down the midfield as well. Come on out to our first home game Thursday night. JV plays at 5 and Varsity at 7.   

Congrats to the Batavia Varsity Girls Golf team on finishing 5th in Conference yesterday. Mandy Naylor led the team and finished 8th overall. Nice job!

Congratulations to the Boys’ Golf Team on their 2nd place finish at the West Chicago Invite.  The team was led by Gavin Newkirk’s 74 that won the tournament, Tanner Gawlik’s 3rd place 77, and Adam Warner’s 8th place 78.  Also, scoring was Drew Freedlund. 

Congrats to the Girls’ Golf Team on a program sweep yesterday versus Glenbard North. Danielle DOMANUS and Mandy NAYLOR lead the teams with the lowest scores. Brooke Besic, Lauren Sudler, Emma Moran, Mya Henderson, Kristin WANKAT, and Nora STINER also contributed as the dogs beat Glenbard by a combined 72 strokes. Awesome job!!

Congratulations to the JV Boys Soccer Team game last night against Neuqua Valley. The boys were able to pull off a 2-2 comeback tie in the final minutes of the game. Max DeBaun had two huge free-kick goals. Way to be resilient boys!

Congratulations to The Fishing Team’s Tucker Oakes and Thomas Woodard who finished in 15th place out of 52 teams at the Kankakee/Des Plaines River Tournament and 4th place out of 48 teams on the Cal Sag River.  Both Tucker and Thomas lead the standings in our area for All-State.  Batavia as a team is currently 12th in the Team of the Year race.

This past weekend our girls track and field team finished their historic season placing 12th overall in the State Track and Field Championship.  The following athletes are all-state placers:  Meghann Hartman, Megan Schulhof, Katrina Schlenker, Skylar Sandoval, Izzy Taylor, Madison Wilson, Essie Newburn, Mariah Wilson.

Tonight is Tri-City Night!  This special event where the four Tri-City Soccer Programs get together for a good cause.  Over the past few years, St. Charles East, St. Charles North, Geneva and Batavia have helped local families in need.  This year, Geneva High School will host this special event to raise money for Melanoma research in the honor of Amy Harper’s (St. Charles East) mother, Linda.  We raise money through t-shirt sales, events at the games, and donations.  Match 1 starts at 5:00 p.m. St. Charles East vs. St. Charles North and Match 2 starts at 7:00 p.m. Batavia vs. Geneva.  Come out to support the Bulldogs and a good cause.

On Friday April 29th, BHS Pride Alliance will be hosting our first ever Pride Fest.  This event will take place during 4th block in the LRC.  There will be activities and organizations all dedicated to supporting and celebrating the LGTBQ+ student community.  Look for our flyers around the school, & scan the QR code to sign up!  Make sure to keep an eye on your email for more details.

Tri-City Night is a special event where the four Tri-City Soccer Programs get together for a good cause.  Over the past few years, St. Charles East, St. Charles North, Geneva and Batavia have helped local families in need.  This year, Geneva High School will host this special event to raise money for Melanoma research in the honor of Amy Harper’s (St. Charles East) mother, Linda.  We raise money through t-shirt sales, events at the games, and donations.  Match 1 starts at 5:00 p.m. St. Charles East vs. St. Charles North and Match 2 starts at 7:00 p.m. Batavia vs. Geneva.  Come out to support the Bulldogs and a good cause.

Next week is Assessment Week. On Wednesday, April 13th, ALL juniors will take the SAT.   Freshman, Sophomores, and Seniors will have Remote Learning.  On Thursday, April 14th, ALL Freshman and Sophomores will take the PSAT while juniors and seniors have Remote Learning.  Your teachers will communicate their expectations for your Remote Learning Days.  Please check your email later today for your testing room assignments and other details for your test.

Congrats to the Batavia HS Winterguard on the silver medal performance in Class SA at the Midwest Color Guard Championships last weekend. Their journey pushed them from class SAA to Class SA and then they earned 2nd place overall. Great job this season winterguard.

JVs goal scorers were: Natalie Warner, Kylee Gerht times 2, and Abi Edwards. 4-0 final score with a shutout in net from Addison Cooper. JV2 secured a 6-0 final score. Varsity girls soccer ended up battling hard and coming up with a hard fought 0-0 tie. Girls soccer plays next at Naperville North on Thursday, March 24.

Congrats to the Batavia Winterguard on their second consecutive 1st place finish at the Lake Park HS Competition this past weekend. Their performance was amazing in that they won their second consecutive 1st place award, but they also did so in one class higher than they have before. This achievement is a first in BHS Winterguard history! Congrats!

They were the Champions of the Festival Division and also received the award for Outstanding Choreography. Congrats to Aidan Regal who was named “Outstanding Performer”.   Swingsingers will be performing this Saturday at the Wheaton Warrenville South Choral Classic, and again at the Showtime concerts next week.

Seniors, graduation is only 2 1/2 months aways and that means it’s time to select our graduation speakers.  There are four speaking opportunities:  the Pledge, the Welcome Speech, the Academic Address, and the Closing Speech.   If you are interested in auditioning, please come to the  Graduation Speaker Meeting on Thursday, March 10th at 3:00 pm in room D103.   If you have any questions about the speeches or the process, please talk to Ms. Pearlman in room D103.  See you there on March 10th.

Interested in a career in healthcare?  The Future Medical Professionals Club will have a guest speaker today who will be joining us virtually to talk about her career as a pharmacist.  We will meet in D202 after school.  New members are always welcome!

If you are a junior who was absent or you are not in either English or Social studies this semester, you are invited to join us during late start tomorrow to hear this presentation in A101 at 7:30 am.

The first ever issue of the BHS Literary Magazine is looking for submissions of poetry, photography, digital art, short stories, and personal essays! You can submit pieces to our GoogleClassroom. We are taking students on a field trip to Waubonsee Community College to see these classes & learn about the career fields. This field trip is also a signing day for seniors who are committing their next steps to these programs at Waubonsee. Email Mrs. Buttels to get a link to register to attend before tomorrow.

Women have proven time and time again through history that they are strong and resilient and our voices will be heard. In Honor of Black History Month: If you have enjoyed learning this month, we encourage you to continue expanding your education by exploring the website Anti Racism Daily or signing up for their newsletter and/or joining us after school club meetings for the Equity and Justice Committee.

Interested in joining Link Crew???  We are now accepting applications for next year and are looking for students who are interested in making a difference at BHS.  Link Crew Leaders assist students in the transition from middle school to high school. The program is looking for students who are accountable and willing to show up throughout the year, self directed, and enthusiastic.  Please check your email for an application. All applications are due Friday, March 25th. See Mrs. Gajos, Mrs. McEwen or Mr. Beckler with questions.

Educators Rising is hosting a panel discussion today in room A101 after school.  At this panel you will have the  honor of talking with counselors, psychologists, and social workers at Batavia High School.  Everyone is welcome.

Congratulations to the boys swim team on finishing seventh in the state, the best finish in program history. Logan Townsend finished 8th and set a team record in the 200 freestyle. Logan and Mason Smith also swam in the 200 free relay  that finished 8th and in the 400 free relay that finished 6th.

Congratulations to sophomore, Sydney Perry for becoming the very first IHSA Girls Wrestling State Champion, and the first undefeated state champion in the inaugural year of IHSA Girls Wrestling. This is her 2nd Illinois State Championship and she’s currently ranked #4 in the country at her weight.

In Honor of Black History Month: She may be a classically trained flautist now, but when Lizzo was first starting off on the instrument, she was largely self-taught.  She would learn to play songs by ear, and afterwards, she would use the sheet music to figure out the notes.

Congratulations to Batavia’s State Qualifying wrestlers:  Ino Garcia, Aidan Huck, Kaden Fetterolf, Cael Andrews and Jackson Tonkovich.  This weekend Sydney Perry and Sandra Sanchez compete in the first ever IHSA Girls Wrestling State Tournament in Bloomington.  Good luck ladies.
