- Batavia High School’s stem magazine, Stellarum, has finished its first ever publication! It features the hard work of students passionate about science, and even has a word search! Swing by the LRC to check it out!
- The city of Batavia celebrates BHS junior Alek Simeunovic for his Fox Valley Code Buddies program, which was recently recognized by Governor Pritzker for “exemplary leadership and community service.” You can read more about his story in the Kane County Chronicle, way to go Alek!
Monday, May 22
- Attention all students – Please take all belongings out of the PE locker room by Thursday, May 25th. Students who had PE during 1st semester and left their belongings can stop by the locker room before or after school, or throughout the day. Items left after Thursday, May 25th will be removed. If you have any questions please find a PE teacher.
- The final Future Creative Professionals meeting of the year is today after school. We will have guest speakers that are current college speakers. Location TBD! Check classroom later today.

- We’re playing bingo today! All students and staff are welcome to join in on the fun. If you did not get a bingo card as you walked into the building this morning, extras can be found in the counseling advising office. There is only one bingo card per student and staff member. BINGO numbers will be called out over the announcements during the last five minutes of 1st, 2nd, and 4th block. If you don’t hear the announcements, the numbers will be posted on the BHS Student Council Instagram page @bataviastudentcouncil. Gift card and candy prizes are available. Good luck to all!

- We would like to congratulate our Math Team for their outstanding performance at the ICTM State math competition last Saturday. Led by their captain, Kadin Johnson, the Math Team put on an impressive display and placed in multiple categories. We would like to recognize Haley Johnson for her exceptional performance in the Algebra 1 individual competition, placing 58th in the state. Additionally, Kadin Johnson placed 4th in the state in the Precalculus individual competition. The Junior Senior 8 Person Team consisting of Kadin Johnson, Connor Nguyen, John White, Eli Davis, Rose Davis, Noah Faivre, Andrew Despe, and Alek Simeunovic also had a fantastic showing, placing 4th in the state. We are proud of their hard work and dedication to the Math Team. Furthermore, the 2-person oralist team of Kadin Johnson and John White placed 7th in the state, showcasing their exceptional communication and problem-solving skills. Congratulations Mathletes! Your coaches are immensely proud of all of you for your outstanding achievements at the ICTM State math competition.
- Congratulations to our very own Ben Hampson for winning first place at the State I.D.E.A Engineering Competition! Ben completed twenty 3D CAD models within the 2 hour time limit and no other competitor completed more than 17. Nice job, Ben!

Started in the mid 90’s by two college students, the Day of Silence has expanded to reach hundreds of thousands of students each year. Every April, students go through the school day without speaking, ending the day with Breaking the Silence rallies and events to share their experiences during the protest and bring attention to ways their schools and communities can become more inclusive. - Today the 21st of March is nowruz, the Persian new year. It is mainly celebrated by people of Afghanistan, Iran and Tajikistan. Nawruz is the time of renewal, reflection and celebration of spring. During this holiday, Persians display a tabletop called haft-sin. Everyone can check out our haft-sin table in the LRC today. The Open Circle club will also be celebrating nowruz tomorrow after school in room B103. If you would like to join in the celebration, write your name on the haft-sin table in LRC or email Mrs. Hack.
- Congratulations to Tucker Oakes, Thomas Woodard, Owen Hartman, and Luke Monalto who competed in 2 Bass fishing tournaments in Southern Illinois this past weekend. Tucker and Thomas finished 8th out of 85 teams while Owen and Luke finished in 23rd place at Lake Kinkaid. Tucker and Thomas also finished 9th out of 98 teams while Owen and Luke finished in 40th place at Lake of Egypt. Batavia High School is currently in the top 15 teams in the state.

- Congratulations to the Batavia Math Team for their performance at the ICTM Regional Math Competition on Saturday. Kadin Johnson earned a perfect score on the Pre-Calculus exam helping secure a 2nd place finish for the team. The Junior/Senior 8-person team won 1st place earning 45 points more than the team that finished in second. Kadin Johnson and John White earned first place in the Oralist Competition. - Thanks to everyone who came out to Top Dog this past weekend! Ryan Whitwell got 2nd runner up, Sanjay Dave got 1st runner up, and our Top Dog 2023 was Norah Thurow! It was a great night with a ton of amazing talent. We raised over $3,000 for the Kiwanis Neuroscience Research Foundation. If you’re upset you missed the show, mark your calendar, because Next year’s Top Dog will be January 13, 2024!
- Congrats to the Swing singers show choir for a strong start to their competition season on Saturday at the “Rock the Rock Showcase” in Milton, WI. Great work and good luck this season!

The Bulldogs got fifth place overall with strong showings by Kadin Johnson, who got first place in Algebra 2 and Alek Simeunovic who got 10th place in Algebra 2. John White and Kadin Johnson got 2nd place in Junior/Senior 2-Person. The junior/senior 8-person team of Alek Simeunovic, TJ Stras, Noah Faivre, Eli Davis, Connor Nguyen, Kendall Knecht, Dhruthi Daggubati, and Sanjay Dave got 6th place. - The Batavia Scholastic Bowl Team opened their competition season with a JV and Varsity sweep of St. Charles North and Wheaton North High School on Thursday, Nov 3rd. Led by a number of returning team members, JV and Varsity outscored their opponents by a combined score of 1,410 to 750. Great job!

- Congratulations to the Batavia Marching Band on their award-winning performance at the Marching Band State Finals this past Saturday! The band earned their 4th consecutive 3rd place this season in class. In addition, the band earned Best Visual Performance. The marching band was selected to perform in finals for the first time in Batavia HS history. Congrats to all of the marching band students!

- Congratulations to the Batavia Varsity Girls Tennis team for winning the IHSA St. Charles North Sectional tournament this past weekend! The Bulldogs were led by Sectional Singles champion Dhruthi Daggubati and Sectional doubles 2nd place finishers Julia Arulandu and Erin Connolly. These three girls qualified for the IHSA state meet that will begin on Thursday. We also received key contributions from the rest of our sectional lineup. Senior Audrey O’Connel had two big wins and Seniors Taylor Steinys and Hannah Schneider had a big doubles win over St. Charles East. The 2022 Varsity Girls Tennis team finished the regular season 15-0 overall and 7-0 in conference, in addition, they won their fourth straight conference title and second consecutive sectional championship. Congratulations on this amazing accomplishment ladies!

The Varsity girls tennis team won theirJacobs Invite tournament and placed first out of eight.. The Bulldogs were led by second place finishes from Dhruthi Daggubati at 1SINGLES and Erin Connolly / Julia Arulandu at 1 DOUBLES. The Bulldogs next conference play is TOMORROW Geneva on Tuesday for Senior Night and at St. Charles East on Thursday.
The JV girls tennis team won first place Saturday at the Ottawa Invite. Sarah Buckert took third place at #1 singles and Ainsley Steinys took first in #2 singles. The Varsity Girls Tennis Team defeated Wheaton South last night by a score of 8-1. The Bulldogs are now 11-0 on the season and 3-0 in the DukaneConference. Shout out to Dhruthi Daggubati, Allison Lukas, Juliana Soltis and Niki Wasmund in singles and Erin Connolly, Julia Arulandu, Taylor Steinys, Hannah Schneider, Madalyn Vieu, Sydney Schmitz, Addi Lowe and Addison LaManna in doubles. The Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday at the Jacobs Invite.

Congrats to the volleyball program on getting the program sweep last night against Glenbard North! A big conference win for all teams! Come out next Tuesday as we take on Wheaton Warrenville South and celebrate Staff Appreciation Night!
The boys varsity soccer team earned a clean sweep last night tying Glenbard North 0-0. Ryan Horlock was outstanding in the goal! Solid defensive performance by Luke Peterson, Brokk Olberg, Jack Smeraglinolo, and Nick Evangelista. Nathan Feller and Alex Marshall locked down the midfield as well. Come on out to our first home game Thursday night. JV plays at 5 and Varsity at 7.
Congrats to the Batavia Varsity Girls Golf team on finishing 5th in Conference yesterday. Mandy Naylor led the team and finished 8th overall. Nice job!

Congratulations to the Boys’ Golf Team on their 2nd place finish at the West Chicago Invite. The team was led by Gavin Newkirk’s 74 that won the tournament, Tanner Gawlik’s 3rd place 77, and Adam Warner’s 8th place 78. Also, scoring was Drew Freedlund.
Congrats to the Girls’ Golf Team on a program sweep yesterday versus Glenbard North. Danielle DOMANUS and Mandy NAYLOR lead the teams with the lowest scores. Brooke Besic, Lauren Sudler, Emma Moran, Mya Henderson, Kristin WANKAT, and Nora STINER also contributed as the dogs beat Glenbard by a combined 72 strokes. Awesome job!!
