Chamber Orchestra
Batavia’s Chamber Orchestra focuses on small ensemble performance. Auditions are typically held in the fall, and the ensemble is traditionally limited to 6-8 violins, 3-4 violas, 3-4 cellists, and 1 bassist. The Chamber Orchestra is exclusive to string players who participate in one of Batavia’s music courses. The fall/ winter semester focuses on preparing winter music for the Festival of Carols, and the spring semester focuses on quartet music for the spring showcase. Students receive coaching sessions from members of the esteemed Avalon String Quartet, the quartet in residence from Northern Illinois University.
