BHS Student Writers Thrill at Lit Fest 2024
What is the Literary Festival?
The Literary Festival is a once-a-year event at which area high school students have the opportunity to showcase their writing and receive professional feedback.
How does the Literary Festival work?
There are several area high schools involved in the contest, and each school is allowed to submit a certain number of entries. The first step is to submit an entry to Batavia High School. A committee from our high school then selects which entries will be submitted to the Literary Festival. Each piece of writing submitted to the festival is read by a professional writer and receives feedback. Prizes are awarded to those entries deemed outstanding by the festival judges.
What type of entries are submitted?
Descriptive Sketch – A sketch of a person, place, or object.
Drama – A short scene or a short play written for stage performance.
Essay – The essay should reflect what the author has learned or come to understand because of the experience.
Poetry – Poems may be very structured or examples of free verse.
Spoken Word Poetry – a recorded performance of a poem
Short Fiction – This category includes a short, fictional story.
